2 Fake Cops Try To Rob Platinum Jewelers

Two men are seen on video walking into a Center City jewelry store looking like law enforcement officers. The word ‘police’ can be seen on what appears to be bulletproof vests.
The real police say the men walked into Platinum Jewelers at 12th and Market Streets around noon Monday and tried to rob the place.  At first glance, one would think this crime was the work of just two men. But Philadelphia Police say it looks like they had some help.
Just minutes before the masked men entered the business, two customers, both seen in surveillance pictures wearing wigs, acting like they were shopping, at times on the phone.
Employees now believe they were speaking with the police impersonators, who were waiting for the signal to come in.
Once the robbers were inside, a female employee pressed the alarm. The man in the black vest moved behind the counter with his gun out.
But realizing they probably didn’t have much time, the fake cops took off without getting a dime or one piece of jewelry.
Employees say all four men jumped into an older model gray Mercury Grand Marquis.
The car had a Pennsylvania tag that police figured out was stolen off another vehicle in Mount Airy.

Two men hospitalized and another dead. They were in two different incidents overnight.  Philly Police were called to the 400 block of Howell Street at 12:30am investigating a man shot. When the officer arrived they heard from neighbors that two people were actually shot during an apparent would-be robbery, said police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

     A 23-year-old man remained in critical condition Tuesday morning after being shot in the head and  twice in the torso. A 19-year-old was in stable condition after being shot in the leg, Small said.

SUV Mistaken as Cab, Assault Driver: Points Gun at Philly Police

     Philly Police say the incident began around 12:30 a.m. Monday when the driver dropped off his girlfriend at Broad Street and Allegheny Avenue in North Philadelphia. Three men approached the stopped red SUV and demanded a ride.

      Police say the victim tried to explain that he wasn’t a cab driver but that the men forced the man to give them a ride after they began to physically attack the driver. The armed men forced the man to drive to the 5100 block of Rubicam Street in the Germantown neighborhood while assaulting the driver along the way, according to police. When the men arrived on Rubicam Street they pulled the driver form the car and continued to rough him up, police said. Just around the same time a police detective responding to a separate crime scene turned down the street and saw the attack.

    The officer identified himself to the attackers before the armed men pointed a gun at him while getting back into the SUV. The officer opened fire striking the vehicle a few times. The SUV was abandoned a couple of blocks away. It’s unclear if any of the suspects were hit. The driver wasn't identified and police didn't say if he was injured during the ordeal.
